Initial Ideas:

Batventures is an animated cartoon intro mockup, entirely made by myself as a proof of concept for how fast I can make an animated piece of work within a short timeframe (approximately 4-5 weeks). 

Development:

Story Writing:

Before any visual development, I dug out ideas from a few years ago on my phone that I had written down for this concept. I mainly stuck to just describing scenarios and leaving out any major character arcs, as this was to be presented as a situational, episodic concept with stereotypical characters that drive the plot along.

Certain elements had to be cut out from the intro alone, as they would only really work with dialogue.

Storyboard:

When developing the storyboard, I had decided to make multiple different ways that the animation could go down. I tried to depict the animation in action, mystery, horror, and comedy genres. But ended up going with the last one, as comedy seemed to be the best route to go down with these designs. However some action and horror elements would be there, just more understated in comparison.

Experimentation & Refinement:

My main animation software of choice was Procreate Dreams, an extension app to the art software "Procreate" by apple, mainly to be used on iPad devices.

I would use Procreate Dreams and its vast gallery of brushes to illustrate the characters and environments accordingly. AS well as utilising my iPad and the apple pencil peripheral that can be bought to better draw, paint and animate on these programs. 

I could also include audio, manipulate the frame speed, and other kinds of editing from Procreate Dreams' 'timeline' feature.

Music used:

My song of choice to accompany the visuals, is the song "Time Constraint"  by Los Angeles based, independent goth band 'Heaven's Den'. The reason I chose this song was because I initially wanted to create a classic 90s cartoon feeling, with my signature edge and fascination with the occult theming of gothic subculture.

What's more is that 'Alec R Cabral' of the band had saw my animation over Instagram and reposted it on the official Heaven's Den page.

Inspirations:

Cartoon Intros:

With my main genre in mind being family-friendly comedy, I looked to inspiration from my childhood and recent findings to form a frame of reference in making my own.

What I can gather from traditional cartoon intro sequences are that they often explain the premise of the show, and give you a quick look into what an episode could consist of. Sometimes accompanied by a song, dialogue and specific visuals made for, or taken from episodes themselves.

I wanted to primarily tell my intro sequence's story with visuals only, and the music provided by Heaven's Dens song I had lifted.
